POINTING
Re-pointing works can be the most tedious, repetitive and drawn out jobs for any building contractor to do.

Often this results in a messy installation where someone has tried to hurry works along.

All of our re-pointing works are conducted by experienced members of staff who are trained in the proper procedure and standards required within Findley Roofing & Building.

Often chimney stacks get left neglected by homeowners due to them being ‘hard to reach’ or simply unsafe to re-point.

Neglected brickwork can collapse causing damage to the roof as we often see in storm season when chimney stacks lose brickwork mortar and end up crashing through ceilings or nearby property.

Insurance companies have frowned upon claims where a customer has left their chimney stack in such a state that its collapse has caused their roof and ceilings to come in also. It is every homeowner’s duty to ensure their property is maintained in a good state of repair in order for any storm damage claim to be successful through their insurance provider. Any evidence of wear and tear will result in a claim being rejected.

Please check the terms and conditions of your insurance policy for this.

In avoidance of any such insurance claim we recommend all chimney stacks are re-pointed and re-flauched every 30 years. If you feel your stack is looking a little worse for wear, you will be surprised that it costs very little to have them re-pointed and maintained.

After all, it has very little materials cost, often just sand and cement. Sometimes however access and scaffolding may be required so these costs must be bourn by the customer.

Findley Roofing and Building own their own scaffolding towers, and in most cases can offer scaffolding at a cheaper rate than the larger fixed point scaffolding companies.

POINTING CASE STUDIES

CASE STUDY 1

Mr & Mrs Salt, Low Fell, Gateshead.
Chimney Stack Re-Pointing

Here this chimney stack was leaking water into this property and causing plastering damage.

It was in such a poor condition that it was almost ready to collapse. After some careful grinding out, we fully re-pointed the entire stack and supplied and fitted new lead flashings.

The result were as follows.
